Johnson, Pfeifer lead Bulldogs

LEWISTON — Danny Pfeifer won the 3,200, Corey Hoffman the triple jump and Freedom Watson the shot put to lead a host of Bulldogs who qualified for state Thursday during the first day of the 5A/4A Region 1 track and field championships in Lewiston.

The boys team trails Moscow by just two points after the first day, with the remaining events taking place today. Mike Hubbard placed second in the high jump, Zach Kuhl second in the long jump, Cody Hecker second in the shot put and Watson second in the discus to also earn state berths.

Christina Johnson threw 119-7 to win the discus by just seven inches, and Susan Kovalchuk placed second in the pole vault as the two are the lone Bulldog girls to earn state berths on the first day.
