Marineau, Vardell leads Bulldogs at regionals
LEWISTON — David Marienau won the 1,600 to lead the Sandpoint boys, clocking a 4:37 and shaving four seconds off his personal best, and Vicky Vardell won the 800 to pace the girls team at the 5A and 4A Region 1 track and field meets which concluded Friday at Vollmer Bowl.
Brandon Hawkins was second in the 800, Cody Hecker second in the 100 and Melinda Van Dyk second in both the 100 and 200 to represent the only Bulldogs qualifying for state automatic berths on the day.
The 4x100 boys relay team of Anthony Gold, Cody Hecker, Mike Hubbard and Corey Hoffman shaved a half second off its best time, coming in second by half a foot in a tight race. Sandpoint coach Dave DeMers thinks they stand a great shot of landing an at-large berth at state next week.
Lakeland’s girls dominated the 4A meet, totaling 96 points to 49 for Moscow and 40 for Sandpoint.
Moscow easily won the 4A boys meet with 89 points.
The state 5A and 4A meets are Thursday and Friday at Boise State’s Bronco Stadium.
