Proposed increase added insult to residents' injury

| May 11, 2009 9:00 PM

We, in Idaho, were recently confronted with the Idaho Legislature wanting to increase our fuel tax to pay for the maintenance of our roads. Many of us agree that a tax increase during economic hard times just adds insult to injury.

However, if you think the few “pennies” that the gas tax would have added to our fuel cost is bad, wait until Obama’s cap and trade plan hits your family budget. Some estimate that cap and trade will cost families as much as $3,100 per year.

Democrats say that this figure is wrong because businesses will pay the majority of the increased costs and the government will return this money to us in the form of goods and services. What a pack of lies!

Every time the Democrats want to increase your taxes, they sell the idea to us by telling us that evil corporations will pay it all and the government will give the tax increase back to us.

First of all, news flash everyone, businesses treat the taxes they pay as an added cost of doing business and pass this cost on to you, the consumer of their product or service.

Secondly, have any of you middle to upper income people ever tried to receive a government service?  None of us will qualify for these “goods and services” because our incomes are too high. Cap and trade is nothing more than another tax on the middle class and it’s going to be a whopper.
