Sagle Senior Thrift Store is alive, doing well

| May 11, 2009 9:00 PM

Guess what? The Sagle Senior Thrift Store is also alive and well, but apparently not too well known. So we are going to try to fill in a few of the blanks for those that might not know of us.

We have been in existence for twenty-five years this year. We have been in several locations. One building burned down, one almost fell down. This prompted us to make the decision to buy of own building. With the help of God and several dedicated members who worked very hard to bring this to fruition, we are now and have been located at 70 Walker Way in the Sagle area for 6 years. One block off Highway 95, behind North Idaho RV sales.

We are kind of in a catch 22 right now. We would like to build on to our building, but this would probably mean that we should raise our prices. We believe that doing this would move us away from our statement of purpose. In our way, what we are trying to do is to help improve the lot of our fellow man. We want to keep our prices affordable for those who are in need of a bargain in this tight economy. We are trying to do this the way God want us to. So we look at our community and we look for opportunities to be of service to those in need.

The business is a non-profit enterprise. All of the proceeds, with the exception of the utilities, the mortgage payments and operating expenses goes back out to the needy citizens of the community and surrounding areas.

We donate to other entities such as Habitat for Humanity, Sandpoint Food Bank, Love, Inc., Bonner Gospel Mission, Community Green Cross (Coeur d’Alene), Teen Center, Head Start, Battered Women Center, Task Force, Partners in Care, Bonner County Museum, Coats for Kids, burned out families, prom dresses and shoes, auction items for sick or accident injured, churches, schools and the list goes on. All Christian books are free

We thank and appreciate the donations of clothing and household items, etc. We especially appreciate good clean reusable items. If we receive items that we cannot use of sell, we try very hard to find a new home for them. The landfill is a last resort.

The store is mostly staffed with volunteers from the Sagle Senior Center. These are all caring and dedicated workers. Everyone was endowed with various needed talents. We work well as a team to get things accomplished.

Our store hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and if if pays we are trying to be open on Saturday.
