'50s fun revs up Sandpoint area

SANDPOINT — Lost in the ’50s officially kicked off its 24th year last night with Thursday’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Heaven concert, but the meat of the iconic event starts today with the vintage car parade.

Beginning at 6 p.m., hundreds of classic cars will rumble through town, starting at Sandpoint High School, moving down Division Avenue, then east on Cedar Street, south onto Forest before entering Church Street, then winding around First Avenue and finishing up back on Cedar.

The popular street dance at Jeff Jones Town Square will immediately follow the parade with a disc jockey playing music from some of the best bands and singers of the ’50s. The night will end with the dance and concert at the Bonner County Fairgrounds, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

The concert features music from the Crystals, Johnny Thunder and, for the 16th year, “house band” Rocky and the Rollers.

Events continue bright and early Saturday morning with the car show, which runs from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Hundreds of the most pristine cars in the world will line downtown streets to battle it out for the title of best in show. Awards will be handed out shortly after the event in front of the Cedar Street Bridge.

Later that night, anyone who missed Friday’s concert at the Bonner County Fairgrounds will get another chance to see the Crystals, Johnny Thunder and Rocky and the Rollers at an encore concert starting at 7:30 p.m.

Wrapping up the weekend, Sunday’s 5-K Aspirin Rally Run givers participants a chance to work off some of the great food and drinks they had Friday and Saturday. The run begins at 10 a.m. at Second Avenue Pizza.
