Doris W. Head, 85

Doris W. Head, 85, passed peacefully with her children and grandchildren by her side on Nov. 5, 2008, in Olympia, Wash.

She was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Morristown, N.J., to Walter Louis and Marion Stevens Wehr.

Doris graduated from Kearney High School and attended Douglas College (formerly N.J. College for Women), Rutgers University, where she graduated with her bachelor of arts degree in library science in 1944. She attended William Patterson & Montclair Colleges to obtain her master’s degree in Library Science & History.

She married William F. Head, of Kearny N.J. in 1947, they later divorced in 1981.

Doris loved being a librarian and received pleasure from working with students in the high schools she served. While living in New Jersey, she was the librarian at Morris Hills Regional High School and head librarian at Pequannock High School. She spent two years as a trustee for the Little Falls Public Library.

In 1977, Doris moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, to be with her family. She was the librarian at Priest River Lamanna High until she retired.

Doris was an active member of the Sandpoint United Methodist Church, East Bonner County Friends of the Library, P.E.O. and NEA/IEA. She also served as a trustee for the East Bonner County District Library and the Sandpoint Senior Center.

Her passions in life were spending time with her grandchildren, reading, baking, swimming, and traveling.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marion and Warren Bauer, Olympia, Wash.; and her son, William D. Head of Spokane, Wash.; her grandchildren, Amy Bauer Nelson, Holly Bauer Daughtry, Sarah Bauer and Kourtney Head; great-grandchildren Hailey Nelson, Brenna Nelson and Kellan Bauer-Daughtry; a sister, Virginia Greenock; and aunt, Anne Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family viewing was held on Nov. 7, 2008, in Olympia. A memorial service for Doris will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Sandpoint United Methodist Church.
