Lakers' comeback effort falls just short

| May 29, 2009 9:00 PM

RATHDRUM — After falling behind 10-0 after three innings, the Riley Creek Lakers showed a lot of resolve, battling back to tie the game before falling 11-10 to Prairie in American Legion action on Friday night.

Cole Tonnemacher started and went five innings for the Lakers (0-2), and Tyler Gordon closed out the last two. A balanced hitting attack was key for the comeback, as the Lakers got the game to 10-10 before yielding the decisive run.

The Lakers will finish a spate of four games against the same team to open the season when they host Prairie in a doubleheader Sunday at War Memorial Field. First pitch is at 1 p.m.

Correction: The Lakers lost the opening game of the season 3-2 to Prairie. The result was incorrect in Thursday’s Bee.
