DAV thanks volunteers

| May 30, 2009 9:00 PM

On behalf of the 120 Bonner County members of Disabled Americans Veterans Chapter 15, I’d like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the wonderful “civilian” volunteers during our recent Memorial Day Forget-me-not drive at the Ponderay’s Wal-Mart, and Yoke’s.

Besides the wise and good-natured staff at both locations our helpers included Blue Sky Broadcasting’s Dave Broughton, KPND’s Jonny Knight, K-102’s Derik Walker and Jeff McClean, The River Journal’s Patricia and Amy Gannon, Bob Wynhausen, Matt Perras, Mayor Hellar, Chief Lockwood, Paul Halverson, Rick Seifert, Jim Ramsey, and Paul Roberson.

A belated thanks as well is due to Sandpoint’s Panhandle State Bank whose “Lost in the ‘50s” barbecue to the Rotary Club, and Community Assistance League who helped us reach nearly a third of the funds needed to replace our aging van which transports area veterans three times weekly to Spokane’s VA hospital for treatment (Driven solely by our wonderful nine volunteer drivers.)

For those who missed these events you can still contribute to the “DAV Van Fund” savings account at Wells-Fargo Bank, or ask at the VFW Hall about our upcoming mini-M-14 Rifle Raffle (tickets sold at Oak Street’s Army Surplus) as well as a future charity Art Auction. A final word of thanks to the good looking and friendly people of Bonner County who have helped make this our most successful fundraising event ever.
