Sandpoint swimmers shine at district meet

MOSCOW — Garrett Dunn finished third in both the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke to help lead the Sandpoint boys team to a third place finish at the 2009 North Idaho District Swimming Championships in Moscow on Saturday.

Dunn also teamed with Graham Cole, Barry Wilson and Chris Mann to finish third in the 400 free relay, and with Mann, Cole and Nik Thorell to finish fourth in the 200 medley relay. Luke Brandenberger, Wilson, Thorell and Zak Roundy also teamed to finish fourth in the 200 free relay. Mann finished third in the 200 individual medley and fifth in the 100 fly, and Wilson finished fifth in both the 100 and 200 free to round out the boys top five placers.

Michelle Rockwell finished fourth in the 200 free and 500 free, Keeley Pearlstein fourth in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke, and Sam Trulock fifth in the 500 free to lead the Bulldog girls to a fourth place finish.

Trulock, Rockwell, Pearlstein and Shannon Curran teamed up to finish fourth in the 200 medley relay, and Beth DiBenedetto, Alex Krames, Kasey Collins and Lydia Stitsel teamed up for a fourth place finish in the 200 free relay, rounding out the top five placers.

Sandpoint will take nine boys and eight girls (see inset box) to the state championships on Friday and Saturday in Boise.
