Diver's adventures were fascinating to hear
Thank you for the Sept. 30 article about diver Eric Smith. To many in the area who know him, his work life seems and is a continuing adventure.
But the underwater archaeological work he and the French institute he often works for is extremely important as evidenced by those who attended a September lecture at the Museum of American Culture in Spokane. It was splendid as were his lectures at North Idaho College.
I am saddened that even though his trip home to lecture was sponsored by the American School of Archaeology, no school in Bonner County availed themselves of his slide show presentation. His mother, Toni Wartenweiler, and I are always excited by his next adventure. In late October, he left for Korea to find early turtle battleships used in sea warfare.
Thanks to all who helped sponsor this lecture series, especially attorney Bliss Bignall and his wife of Coeur d’Alene, George and Donna Gow of Hope for the use of their motor home and Jim Ford for photographing the Spokane lecture for the college’s archives.
