Penney Kathleen (Smith) Sales, 67
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at 1:50 a.m., our mother, Penney Kathleen (Smith) Sales, 67, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, with her sons on either side.
Penney was born on Nov. 23, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Sidney and Mary “Nickey” Smith. She is survived by her father Sidney E.; and brother, Sidney N. (Kathy) Smith of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; her son Darin D., of Hailey, Idaho; and son Mark S. (Leigh); and 2 beautiful granddaughters, Sydney and Lindsey, also of Coeur d’Alene.
Penney was a loving person who lived each day with compassion. She touched everyone deeply with her refreshing optimism, endearing spirit and many people have a special place in their heart just for her. We were amazed at the number of great friends that visited in her last hours at the hospital.
She was a long-term resident of Coeur d’Alene and Anchorage, Alaska. She also lived in and had a great love for Sandpoint, Idaho. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1960 and then from the University of Idaho with her Elementary Teaching certificate. She attained her master’s degree in adult education from City University in Seattle. She became a life coach and was a director and strong advocate for pre-paid legal services.
Penney loved to travel. She saw many countries of the world: numerous Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia to Iceland, much of Europe, Morocco and a wonderful visit with her son Mark in Cyprus. Her favorite way to see the West was to tour in her RV. She drove from Alaska to Arizona and many other places in between. Among her favorite adventures was to the National Parks, like Glacier, Yellowstone, and Volcanoes, in Hawaii. Penney, being a great fan of the Parks would encourage everyone to wear something or bring a memento from any of the parks to show at the service. Her desire is for her remains to be scattered in the national parks.
A celebration of life service and potluck reception will be held at the Unity Church in Coeur d’Alene, 4465 N. 15th St, on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. The church will be open at 9 a.m. There will be an opportunity for anyone to speak briefly about Penney during the service if you so desire. One of Penney’s many goals was to establish an account to help her grandchildren with their education. An account has been set up in Penney’s name at Horizon Credit Union in Coeur d’Alene if you care to donate. Any other donations to a charity in Penney’s name would also be appreciated. Flowers are also welcome. We are sure that she would have loved to have them there for everyone to enjoy.
Please sign the guestbook and view her memorial photo montage over the next month at www.englishfuneral-chapel.com.
