Annual ski swap returns

| November 6, 2009 8:00 PM

SANDPOINT — The Schweitzer Alpine Racing School is hosting its annual Ski Swap at the Bonner County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 14. If you have gear you’d like to sell, or better yet, if you’re looking to get outfitted for the coming season, this is your event.

It doesn’t take too many rental fees before owning makes sense. Besides, you can sell the stuff the kids outgrew next year. The swap doesn’t only resell used items. All of the regional ski shops bring in last year’s stock at huge discounts, often as much as 75 percent off retail.

So if you want ski equipment, or even are just looking for a new coat or mittens for those cold winter days, the ski swap is for you. Here’s how it works:

n Bring in items you wish to sell from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13. If you aren’t sure how to price your item, ask one of the volunteers for advice. There is a fee of 50 cents per item, plus 20 percent of the sale price is retained by SARS.

n The doors open at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. Get there early because there’s usually a crowd of bargain hunters. There is an modest entry fee — even if you’re just browsing. Sales continue until 2 p.m. Entry is $2 per person, $5 for adults.

n Pick up unsold items, or hopefully a check, from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday evening. Remember, if you miss the pick-up time your gear just got donated to the Special Olympics.
