Sandpoint chamber welcomes Kinderhaven

SANDPOINT — The Greater Sandopint Chamber of Commerce welcomed Kinderhaven, a nonprofit organization serving children in the community.

Founded in 1996 as an emergency shelter, Kinderhaven continues to be a safe haven for children who have been removed from their homes for their own protection. Open 24 hours a day throughout the year, staff are available for children who come at a moment’s notice, day or night. Usually arriving with nothing but the clothes on their backs, Kinderhaven provides the children with a home environment, food, and clothes. But it’s not just “stuff” that they offer ?– staff welcome children with open arms and caring hearts, knowing the healing power of love.

A non-profit organization, Kinderhaven is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, all intensely committed to the children’s welfare. As a local nonprofit, they rely on community donations for almost 90 percent of their funding. According to director Phyllis Horvath. “We’ve been extremely fortunate to have such long standing support from our community members. They’ve made it possible for us to help so many children over the past 12 years.”

Kinderhaven is gearing up for its annual (and only) fundraiser, The Festival of Trees, with the big gala scheduled for Dec. 5. For more information about the fundraiser, contact Kinderhaven at 265-2236.  Financial contributions may be sent to Kinderhaven at P.O. Box 2097, Sandpoint, ID  83864 or through their new website at www.kinderhavensandpoint.com.
