Day allows us to honor those who serve U.S.
Ninety-one years ago, Nov. 11 was celebrated around the world because the Great War finally came to an end. The carnage was so great, the devastation so concentrated and the consequences so profound it was inconceivable at the time that there would ever be another conflict so great. That the war could ever be called World War I and the Armistice forgotten was incomprehensible.
Nonetheless, what happened almost a century ago has long been over shadowed by equally tragic events that also threatened our sense of freedom and pursuit of happiness. Unfortunately the lessons learned seem to be forgotten so we continue generation after generation to have the same experiences and for the same reasons which brings us to Veterans Day.
Since the conflicts keep on occurring apparently it is logical that we honor the men and women who in each generation pick up the sword.
Let us be grateful that there are some among us who have that courage and dedication to the values we hold so dear. After all that veteran assumed a burden for two people, yours and his.
