Roundabouts, curbs are lacking in charm
In the past I have been quite impatient with those with the “throw the bums out” attitude. However, I am beginning to lean in that direction myself. Sandpoint was named best small town in the West, not best city in the West. It seems to me that our city council and planning departments have big city-itis. Case in point. The bulbous corner curbs in town may look citified but they eliminate at least one desperately needed parking spot in the block and make parking difficult.
Another point of contention is holding up Super 1 Foods for a big city traffic circle at Boyer and Larch. Four-way stop signs have worked just fine at Boyer and Cedar for the past 40 years. It would only cost a couple hundred dollars to install 2 more stop signs and would cause far fewer accidents as opposed to thousands for a traffic circle and an unknown cost in accidents.
Another bit of silliness is the back-in parking on Third Avenue. All it takes is one super cab pickup to back in and two cars cannot meet in the street. Wake up. There is a reason people want to be here, it’s called charm. There is nothing charming about bulbous corners, traffic circles and back-in parking.
