Family, Joey deserve answers for decision

| November 14, 2009 8:00 PM

We have all read the article titled, “Couple raises questions following adoption,” which appeared in the Bee on Nov. 4. The devastating loss the Blackford family is experiencing because of the decision that has come down regarding their foster son is incomprehensible to us.

Those of us signing this letter are teachers and staff members at Farmin Stidwell School who have worked with and taught all five of the Blackford/Walker children. Through the years, we have witnessed this family’s involvement in many school activities. Their combined family is strong, loving and caring and their generosity to others is beyond measure.

Abruptly taking a toddler away from the only family he has known since birth seems to be an injustice of the worst kind not only for this little guy but also for Anna, Lacey and their children. We hope that the Department of Health and Welfare will answer this family’s questions about Joey’s placement honestly and fairly.

It is sad to think that other children will not receive the benefit of the foster care love this family has to offer because of the unfortunate decision to place Joey elsewhere. At Farmin Stidwell we are grieving for the Blackford family. We hope the answers they seek will be forthcoming and will bring them peace.
