Owners' generosity is deeply appreciated

Recently we had a fund-raiser at Washington elementary. This was among the many fund-raisers locally. While kudos go out to the many parent volunteers, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the restaurants that participated.

As a former restaurant owner and therefore someone with a unique perspective, I can tell you that our local restaurants are bombarded with requests for donations of food, gift certificates, auction items etc. While honoring these requests in good times is a challenge, in these tough times it is even harder. This is especially true when you consider that many of these events that restaurants contribute to actually draw people away from the restaurants when the function occurs.

We are lucky to have such local businesses that are so giving.
