Second quarter paces Vikings past Bulldogs

SANDPOINT — Coeur d’Alene exploded for 27 points in the second quarter, providing plenty of cushion for a 59-21 win over Sandpoint in nonleague girls basketball Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

Kyeli Parker scored 12 points and Danya Drager added 10, and each buried two 3-pointers to lead the Vikings (3-0), who had a pretty balanced scoring attack.

Christina Johnson and Maggie Kirscher each scored seven to lead the Bulldogs (0-4), and Alex Bucholtz added three points and seven rebounds in defeat. Bulldogs head coach Lance Bruce said he’s proud of the improvement his team has shown in the first four games.

“Three of those losses were to top 10 teams in the state,” said Bruce, referring to the Vikings, Post Falls and Lake City. “We’re getting better. Coeur d’Alene had to work for those points. They killed us on the offensive boards.”

Sandpoint plays at Lewiston on Dec. 3.
