It's time to return the favor and help Buff

| November 25, 2009 8:00 PM

Someone once said the only way to truly measure one’s wealth is by the friends they keep. Those of us who know Buff Johnson can attest to the fact that our lives are richer simply because we have had the privilege of being in his company. Buff is a treasure.

He has always been the first guy to pitch in when someone needed something. From selling raffle tickets for Lion’s Club or his involvement in the Wishing Star Foundation, Buff has spent his lifetime residency in Sandpoint working to improve his community. Some of us know from first-hand experience that Buff’s the kind of guy who hates to see anyone struggle. We know he’ll plow our driveway on snowy days, send money when we’ve experienced a crisis and help us when life becomes challenging. Not only does Buff pitch in, he does it with a grin and a giggle.

Buff was diagnosed with cancer last January. While his treatments have exhausted his insurance benefits, he continues to require weekly visits for chemotherapy. To help with his medical and travel expenses, a benefit has been scheduled to be held at the Bonner County Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 4 p.m. The Hoot Owl will be providing dinner for $10 per person and an auction will follow. I would encourage anyone who is able to attend, even if it’s just to meet one of the nicest fellows around.
