Tragedy had nothing to do with religion

| November 25, 2009 8:00 PM

Evelyn Finney brings up a good point; the tragedy at Fort Hood was murder. However, for anyone to not want to actually understand the criminal mind or act is to go blindly through life in our currant violent times. Whether we are discussing school shootings, child molestation, or war crimes, we cannot work toward solutions, if we decide to simplify the dire problems. It makes perfect sense for sane people to try to understand the deranged acts of the few.

Further it’s terribly counter-productive to demonize an entire race or religion, which unwisely creates more hostility between people living in the same small world. Islam has extremists; but they do not speak for the entirety of Islam. The Christian crusades historically demonstrates how a religion can be used for evil.

It would make more sense to ask the important questions, why wasn’t this particular man, who had already raised red flags, not taken out of active duty and dealt with. This is another tragedy that could have been avoided, if the military were not overextending the deployment of troops. Our troops are from all walks of life, serving in the United States military from all races and religions.
