Motorists 'greedier and speedier'

How many pedestrian fatalities is it going to take before motorists pay attention to the walkers in this “walking town?”
A large part of the problem is most motorists are speeding on Fifth and Boyer avenues and, of course, they can’t stop for a pedestrian only to get maybe 20 feet before they have to stop at a light.
It never ceases to amaze me that motorists get greedier and speedier during the fall and winter months. God knows, they’re not outside in the cold with badly cleared and lighted sidewalks.
Exactly where does the money for city lighting that we pay for in taxes go to, if half this town is blackened out and impossible to see where you’re walking?
