SANDPOINT — Sophomore Ellie Engel scored two goals and tallied an assist, leading Sandpoint to a decisive 4-1 win over Lakeland in 4A Inland Empire League girls soccer action Thursday night at War Memorial Field.

Melinda Van Dyk and Nichole Pagano also added goals, as the Bulldogs (8-4-1, 4-0 4A IEL) out-shot the Hawks (5-7-2, 1-3 4A IEL) 16-2 and dominated possession to remain undefeated in the 4A ranks.

“I liked how we possessed the ball,” said Bulldogs assistant coach Ed Bock. “Ellie had composure coming out of the midfield and around the goal. That was huge, and hopefully we’ll keep building off that.”

Marisa Watson scored late in the game, slicing and dicing her way through the defense for the Hawks’ only score.

“We just got outworked today,” explained Lakeland coach Mario Maddy. “We didn’t play the way we needed to to compete.”

Sandpoint is at Lewiston on Saturday.
