Lunde sparks Bulldogs in win over Bears

MOSCOW — Piper Wahlin had nine kills and three blocks, Kaiti Lunde added seven kills, Koko James tallied 17 assists and three aces, and Alissa Millard added 16 digs as a focused Sandpoint team swept Moscow 25-18, 25-12 and 25-16 Thursday night in 4A IEL volleyball action at the Bear Den.

“We played well on a difficult road trip. It’s always hard to come down here,” said head coach Karen Alsager, lauding the spark Lunde brought to the floor. “Every time she swung she basically got a kill. She’s a smart hitter and she’s also serving well.”

Sandpoint is at Central Valley on Saturday.

n Wampus Cats take down Knights

CLARK FORK — Shaina Gustafson had 15 kills and Chelsea Macumber added 12 as the Wampus Cats beat Lakeside 25-22, 24-26, 25-18 and 25-23 Thursday night in North Star League volleyball action in Clark Fork.

Moranda Becker added 10 digs, Macumber had a team-high eight aces and Brocklynn Thornton and Jessica Cartmell each had two blocks for the Wampus Cats (9-3, 5-1 NSL).

“We played very aggressively, both serving and at the net,” said Cats head coach Carolyn Speelmon. “Brocklynn had a great game at the net.”

Ruth Brunelle blasted 10 kills to lead Lakeside, and Jennifer Mitchell had a match-high 30 set assists in defeat.

Clark Fork is at Wallace on Tuesday.
