Find out the truth on wolf reintroduction

| October 3, 2009 9:00 PM

I am concerned about the reintroduction of the wolf in our area and other areas in our country as well. I grew up in Priest River and enjoyed fishing, hunting and exploring our mountain roads, lakes and rivers. We could go pretty much anywhere we wanted and see abundant wildlife.

I lived in southeast Alaska (Petersburg) from 1974 to 1996. 1 didn’t know very much about wolves and that is when I found out about the Coronation Island experiment in 1960. If you are concerned about the reintroduction of the wolf you should google these two studies: 1) .steve@idahoforwildlife.com and 2) Wolf experiment on Coronation Island in southeast Alaska (1960)

This information will give you a better understanding of why wolves have to be controlled. In my opinion, hunting with a few permits will not keep the wolf in check. Some of the things you will read and photos may disturb you. I am concerned like many people of the depletion of the elk and deer herds.

There has been much publicity about the wolf hunt permits and the man who killed the first wolf has received negative attention from some wolf supporters. Do these same people not care about the depletion of our deer and elk? If our game biologists and other officials had learned lessons from the past a wolf hunt would not be necessary.
