Bulldogs down Vikings

| October 8, 2009 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT — For the second consecutive season the Sandpoint girls went undefeated in Inland Empire League play, finishing with a 1-0 win over Coeur d’Alene Thursday at Great Northern Park.

The lone goal of the game was a beauty, as Meghan Pagano did a 360 degree spin with the ball, before laying it off to McKinzi Obaitek, who blasted a left footed rocket in for the decisive goal, her fourth of the season.

Bryce Clark picked up her seventh shutout between the pipes, finishing with four saves, including a diving stop late in the second half to preserve the win for the surging Bulldogs (10-4-2).

“I knew there would only be a few quality chances,” said Bulldogs coach Adam Tajan. “We played real physical and finished well. I’m really proud of how the team has come together and turned it on.”

The Bulldogs finished 10-0-2 in IEL play, and all four of their losses came against larger Washington schools, which put a dent in their overall record but made them into a stronger team down the stretch.

Sandpoint now awaits the winner of Tuesday’s Moscow/Lakeland winner, and will host a 4A Region 1 playoff game on Wednesday.
