Council blackmailing residents to pass levy

| October 10, 2009 9:00 PM

Well,  the city council seems to have taken a cue from what that CBS producer allegedly did to David Letterman … extortion, also known as blackmail.

If we don’t vote to raise our water service rates for two years at approximately $6 a month, they’ll stick us with $15 a month permanent rate hike. Isn’t that sweet. I’d call the cops, but oops, they’re city employees. Maybe I’d call the state attorney general and file a criminal complaint. At the very least, I will do all I can to make sure any councilperson or the mayor who votes for such a rate hike if the bond/levy fails, is ousted in the next election.  That is if we ever get to vote again. Two thirds of the council are appointees.

I, for one, do not desire to pay for developers enriching themselves at my expense. Any water system upgrade should be paid for by higher rates for these new hookups along with surcharges on the developers. Don’t stick me with this cost. We’ve already paid for our water system.  Let them pay for theirs.
