Burglary suspect enters not guilty plea
SANDPOINT — An 18-year-old Sandpoint teen implicated in a break-in at Serve-A-Burger has pleaded not guilty to burglary.
Shawn Daniel Visintin entered the plea earlier this month. A two-day jury trial in 1st District Court is set to start on Dec. 14. He is free on his own recognizance while the case is pending.
Visintin’s alleged accomplice, Cordell Martin Hull, an 18-year-old Bonner County resident, is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 2. Hull is also free on his own recognizance.
Both suspects waived their rights to preliminary hearings, court records show.
Visintin and Hull were allegedly caught red-handed inside the restaurant in the pre-dawn hours of Aug. 20. The two repeatedly tripped the business’ alarm system, according to a Sandpoint Police report.
The two reportedly told police they discovered a window was ajar and entered the restaurant in search of money and excitement. Two paper bags full of coins and burglary paraphernalia were found at the scene, the report said.
In Idaho, defendants convicted of burglary face between one and 10 years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines.
