SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Bulldog Athletic Hall of Fame committee has announced its inductees for the class of 2009. The committee has been working this spring and summer to sift through the dozens of nominees.

According to Hall of Fame President David DeMers, the six-member committee has chosen 13 former athletes and coaches  to be enshrined this year. The inductees range from the class of 1953 to the class of 2003.

“I believe the committee did a good job reviewing and selecting new members based on our criteria, and as everyone knows it is not a perfect system,” said DeMers. “But it takes time and commitment and the committee did their job well.”

This year two individuals will also be honored for the “Bulldog Special Recognition” award. This award will be a way to say thanks to those who volunteer behind the scenes, as everyone knows success is much tougher without them.

Two local businesses will also be honored as Bulldog Boosters. Greg Taylor of Taylor-Parker and Ed and Doug Hawkins of Litehouse will be this year’s recipiants.

This year’s celebration will kick off with the introduction of the new members and honorees at half time of the Lakeland football game on Friday, Oct. 30. There will be a no host reception prior to the game at the Elks Lodge from 5-6 p.m. for all of those who wish to meet and renew old friendships. Also, there will be reserved seating at the game for the inductees, honorees and their families.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, the ball starts rolling at 5-6 p.m. with a no host reception at the Elks Lodge. Dinner will be served by Wiley Widgeon at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. the Hall of Fame program will start. Bob Witte will be the Master of Ceremony and the attire is business casual.

DeMers said they are expecting a large crowd and that dinner tickets can be purchased at the door and the cost is $25 per person. Seating is limited to about 120 people so come early.
