SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Junior Tackle team No. 2 Knights notched their first win of the season last Saturday, taking down Nine Mile 14-6 in a spirited effort.

Trevor Edison forced a fumble on the opening drive of the game, giving Sandpoint great field position, before great blocking by Travis Davis and Lucas Miller led to a 15 yard touchdown run by Colton Engel.

On Sandpoint’s ensuing possession, Miller and Matteo Yetter each had some big runs, before quarterback Dylan Hancock finished another drive with a scoring run up the middle.

After giving up a score to Nine Mile, the defense of Sandpoint finally took over and dominated the rest of the game, highlighted by Travis Davis saving a touchdown by running down the Nine Mile tailback. Patrick Kummer also had a big tackle in the backfield, and Hancock intercepted a ball to kill drives.

With Nine Mile marching for the potential score, Engel stripped the ball from the running back, and Sandpoint was able to run out the clock.

The Knights excecuted well on both sides of the ball and controlled the tempo of the game throughout.  Defensive plays by Jerimiah Bristow, Aubrey Stevens, Talon Dewey, Caiden Mitton and Miller helped Sandpoint dominate.

Coach Pat Kummer was given the famed gatorade shower after the game by the players, who were extremely excited to come away with the victory.
