WORLEY — David Marineau edged teammate Danny Pfeifer to win the 4A Region 1 cross country race, leading the Bulldog boys to a district title Thursday at the Circling Raven Golf Course.

“Our team ran fantastic,” Sandpoint coach Matt Brass said. “Some of them didn’t have the best day, but others stepped up and had a personal record to pick them up.”

Freshman Alex Charvoz finished third overall, as the Bulldogs will have a nice advantage when the 4A state meet is held on the same 3.1 mile course at the Coeur d’Alene Casino next Saturday.

Moscow dominated the girls race, placing five runners in the top seven to earn the district title over Sandpoint and Lakeland.

Sandpoint’s Molly Burgstahler placed third and Lakeland’s Latecia Howell took seventh to qualify for state as individuals, with the Bulldogs also getting a berth as a team.

“We’ve got a young girls team,” Brass said. “We lost a lot of seniors last year. The girls we had ran well today. Moscow is a great team. They ran as a pack as they are supposed to.”
