Peggy I. Newcomb, 73

Peggy I. Newcomb, 73, of of Laclede, Idaho, passed away at her home in Laclede on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009.

Peggy was born July 8, 1936 in Spokane, Wash., the daughter of Vincil and Mildred (Koon) Surface.

Peggy attended school in Spokane, Wash., and Sagle, Idaho, and she graduated from high school in Sandpoint, Idaho.

She married Wayne L. Newcomb in Sagle on June 19, 1954.

Peggy worked for Keytronics in Newport, Wash., at Safeway in Sandpoint as a meat wrapper, as a telephone operator in Cali-fornia; and, when she was 50, she attended North Idaho College and was trained as a licensed practical nurse and worked at Bonner General Hospital.

Peggy was a member of the Eagles auxiliary in Sandpoint, PTA in Priest River, 4-H leader for Bonner County.

She was also a member of the Democratic Central Committee in Bonner County, Laclede Community Club and was involved with Little League baseball in Sandpoint.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne, at their home in Laclede; daughters Gale (and Joe) Boyle of Laclede, and Tamera (and Robert) Pate of Priest River; sons, Robert Newcomb of Spokane, and David Newcomb of Sandpoint, Idaho; five grandchildren, Dawn, Danette, Tiffiny, Brian and Becca; eight great- grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Shephard of Spokane, Maribel (and Philip) Barfus of Spokane and Carolyn (and Otho) Savage of Priest River.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Surface; and infant sister, Gale Jean Surface; and her stepfather, Harold Theodorson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.
