Bulldogs topple Indians
COLVILLE, Wash. — Senior running back Cody Hecker had another big game and the defense gave up just seven points for the second straight week, propelling Sandpoint to a solid 20-7 road win over Colville on Friday night.
After running just three plays in a quiet first quarter, Sandpoint (2-0) got the jump start it needed when Hecker burst through the line and outran the Colville (0-1) defense for a 77 yard touchdown early in the second quarter. Hecker carried 19 times for 194 yards, and also scored on a two point conversion when the Bulldogs unveiled the Wildcat offense for the first time.
Senior quarterback Daniel Charvoz was once again efficient, leading an offense which never turned the ball over. He finished 6-13 for 129 yards and a touchdown, a 15 yard scoring strike to Mike Hubbard that put the Bulldogs up 12-0 at halftime. He also rushed six times for 34 yards, including a two-yard keeper for the game’s final score.
Hubbard was once again the Bulldogs’ prime receiving target, hauling in four balls for 91 yards. Fellow receiver Brandon Lawrence had to leave the game in the first half with an injury.
The Bulldogs’ defense was stingy again, allowing just 270 yards of total offense and holding the opposition to one touchdown for the second consecutive week. A.J. Smith’s hard tackle and subsequent fumble recovery helped thwart a late Colville drive to help seal the game.
Sandpoint hosts Middleton next week, looking to remain undefeated.
