Rewarding a depraved killer is not acceptable

| September 5, 2009 9:00 PM

What kind of society do we have that rewards a depraved killer like Michael Vick with a multi-million dollar contract merely because he can toss a football? What Vick did to those poor defenseless dogs by forcing them to fight to the death, killing and torturing those who refused is worthy of the Roman coliseum thirst for blood. A just punishment for Vick would be to throw him into a lions’ den rather than a mere one-and-a-half year stay in prison. For those who say everyone should have a second chance, Vick did not give those poor dogs a second chance to live.

The remorse which he displayed on “60 Minutes” was personal pity about having been caught and forced to give up his lavish lifestyle for a temporary period. He should have been given a life sentence in a cell close to Bernie Madoff.

I am appalled that the president of the U.S. Humane Society, who appeared on “60 Minutes” with Vick, should consider him a role model for children against cruelty to animals. I have canceled my membership in the USHS.

If karma exists, Vick should get his just desserts on the football playing field sooner or later.
