Use name and stand behind statements

| September 7, 2009 9:00 PM

After living in Sandpoint for 37 years and being a Daily Bee subscriber, I missed the news of the town I love when we moved to Post Falls two years ago.  I was delighted to learn I could access the Bee online. I am appalled, however, to see that people can comment on news articles anonymously using an alias,  with vitriolic and nasty responses and no accountability.

To submit this letter to the editor, I followed the Bee requirements of listing my name, e-mail address, city, state, and telephone number.  If those who respond to news articles online were required to do the same there would be a more intelligent and civil dialogue regarding the article. Hiding behind an alias seems to allow a writer to make hurtful comments that do not resolve or address the issue.  If you have the courage of your convictions, have the courage to identify yourself.
