Term limits needed to stop career politicians
It’s not a new topic — we’ve been talking about it since 1776. Back then it involved discussion between Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and George Washington. All three favored some sort of term limits for Congress.
Imagine our current federal government, where the people have mandated term limits for Congress. What changes would occur?
What springs to mind immediately is the elimination of career politicians. Members would be seated because they want to serve the people, not themselves. No more “senior” senators or representatives, just fresh new faces and new ideas. Because they can’t make a career of it, they won’t be wasting time raising funds for their next reelection. Lobbyists and special interest groups will find their bribes and re-election contributions are no longer welcome. Too many advantages to list here! The downside? I can’t think of any. Let’s send these lawyers back to their private practices.
No doubt you are aware that it will take a “revolution” of sorts, by the people of this nation, to force Congress to implement changes when it comes to their cushy jobs. I encourage folks to research the history of grassroot groups who are for term limits. Go to United States term limits, or www.wikipedia.org.
As the saying goes, “United we stand, divided we fall.” This old saying might be a modern day warning of our two-party government monopoly, who seldom agree on anything! Now would be a good time to take our country back from congress, while there is still something left to save.
