Investment in hope will pay off for all

| September 16, 2009 9:00 PM

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for its support and generosity.

On Aug 10, we put on the “Invest in Hope” fundraiser for Matsiko at the Sandpoint Events Center. Matsiko is a children’s choir from eastern Africa that is traveling the United States to raise awareness and sponsorship to help break the cycle of poverty they face in Uganda.

About 400 people showed up to enjoy the evening and to see Matsiko perform. But overall they came to “Invest in Hope.” The event was a success and a testament to the many ways that we can invest in each other lives.

Through this fundraiser we were able to donate 500 pounds of food to the  food bank, 29 men were auctioned off to invest five hours of manpower each into local non-profit organizations and almost $10,000 was raised to go toward building a home for Matsiko and 250 orphaned peers. The evening would not have been so successful without the amazing volunteers, the donations from local businesses and individuals or without our communities attendance and investment.

We are so grateful to be  surrounded by people who understand “community” is more than a word — it’s a way of life.

We would also like to thank Brad and Linda Scott, Keokee Publishing, Bruce and Heather Pedersen, Cedar Hills and First Christian Churches  and especially our “Guys In Ties” — you know who you are.
