Mangus William Newman, 90

Mangus William Newman, 90, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in Sandpoint, Idaho. 

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Alpine Vista Senior Apartments on Pine Sttrry in Sandpoint with Pastor Steve Nickodemus of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. 

Interment will be held later in October in Hon, Ark.

Mangus was born on Feb. 25, 1919, in Hon, Ark., the son of William and Mary Ellen Newman. 

He was drafted into the United States Army during World War II.

 He married Louise Carroll on June 1, 1945, and the couple made their home in Long Beach, Calif.

Mangus served a 30 year career as an electrician at El Toro Marine Base.

After retirement they lived in Ft. Smith, Ark, then Bella Vista, Ark, before moving to Sand-point, Idaho in 2005.

Man-gus was a member of the B.P.O. Elks in Long Beach. 

He loved baseball, and as a younger man enjoyed golf and bowling.

He is survived by one daughter Kathryn (Roland) Rose of Sagle, Idaho; four grandchildren, Carrie Goodman, Nicole Seltzer, Ryan Rose, and Sara Haight; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen Louise Newman; and a daughter, Nancy Caroline Levernier.
