Becker, Komanec lead Cats in sweep

CLARK FORK — Moranda Becker had a season-high eight service aces, and Chelsea Macumber had a match-high 14 kills as the Wampus Cats swept the visiting Miners 25-19, 25-20, 25-11 Thursday night in North Star League play in Clark Fork.

Shaina Gustafson added seven aces, Celeste Komanec 25 assists and Brocklynn Thornton, Macumber and Becker each had three digs for the Cats (4-1, 2-1 NSL).

“They are playing well together, the communication is better and that was our goal,” said Cats head coach Carolyn Speelmon, who had high praise for the play of Becker. “She had a strong serving game and her defense was solid.”

Speelmon also like the play of middle blocker Jessica Cartmell, who continues to get better as the season progresses.

Monique Lemieux had 14 digs and 10 assists to the lead the Miners, who also got 12 kills and two blocks from Brandi Bilaski in defeat.

The Cats play Saturday in the Bonners Ferry tournament.]
