Road & Bridge has always been friendly, professional
While I have had limited experience with Bonner Road and Bridge — only the guys keeping our road maintained and plowed during the last two winters — I have found them to be friendly, polite and helpful, and doing a good job. I’m happy to have them here.
While not always agreeing with their decisions or procedures, my experience with other county offices from the commissions through the clerk, sheriff, planning, assessor, motor vehicles, public works, and treasurer have found their personnel to also be friendly, polite, and helpful.
Having said this if after investigation it is found that Ms. Holbert and Mr. George were treated by road and bridge employees as alleged then these people have forgotten that they are public servants, and work for us taxpayers. They should be fired for cause immediately without severance compensation. There are numerous out of work residents who would be more than happy to replace them and do a good job.
Ms. Holbert and Mr. George should also realize that there is a right of way extending a certain distance on each side of the county roads. The county has the right to do whatever they deem necessary to maintain the roads within that right of way.
The county and its employees on the other hand have absolutely no legal right to enter or do anything on private property without the owner’s permission. Should they do so the county is liable for any damages incurred and those employees doing so are guilty of criminal trespass and could and should be individually prosecuted for it.
