Is a civilian national defense force next?

| September 21, 2009 9:00 PM

I have previously referenced President Barack Obama’s proposed “civilian national defense force.” I just watched a video of Obama speaking about this concept, and read several articles about this proposal.

Briefly, he wants what amounts to a paramilitary force “as large, as well funded (2009 defense budget is projected to be $651.2 billion, according to Wikepedia), as well trained, and as powerful as the regular military.”

In addition to small arms such as true full auto military assault rifles and other light infantry weapons, what else in the way of weaponry does this paramilitary force entail? Is it needed? Can we afford it? (Could this astronomical sum be better spent on health care?)

This paramilitary force would answer directly to the president.

How would the President’s personal paramilitary force relate to the regular military, the National Guard, and to civilian law enforcement?

Is this really ACORN with guns, led by newly commissioned four star General Wayne Radke? A retired peace officer friend reminded me to add the “Black Panthers” (“Old” and “New”), and the “Weatherman” to this private army of President Obama.

We can further add old radicals from the wacko “Students For A Democratic Society” (SDS). Some of the above groups are far left violent revolutionaries. Who else can we add to the president’s paramilitary force?

Please tell me why we need this huge civilian national defense force?

Perhaps the precursor to a vast paramilitary force going door-to-door and confiscating privately owned firearms?
