Edith Marie Jennestad passed away on Sept. 4, 2009, just two weeks shy of her 95th birthday in Kirkland, Wash.

Edith was born on Sept. 18, 1914, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Ole and Hannah Jennestad.  She attended Farmin Grade School and graduated valedictorian from Sandpoint High School.

She attended Lewiston State Normal School and received the gold key for the highest grade point average at that time. Later she attended the University of Washington and finally graduated from Greeley College in Greeley, Colo.

Following graduation, Edith taught elementary school and high school in Sandpoint for several years.

Her father finally convinced her to join him in the family business, Jennestad Clothing Company here in Sandpoint. She continued to work in the family business for many years and finally retired five years after her father’s death at age 95 1/2.

Edith attended First Lutheran Church and directed the choir for some years. She was often the soloist for special occasions.

Edith was active in the Sons of Norway. She especially enjoyed entertaining friends in her home and in restaurants in the Sand-point area.

Two years ago she moved to Kirkland, Washington to be closer to her sister and family.

She is survived by her sister, Helen Luvaas of Bellevue, Wash.; nieces, Sharron Murray of Seattle and Pam Lovell of Kirkland; great-nieces Erin Murray, Courtney Lovell and great-nephew, Ryan Jennestad Lovell.

A memorial service will be held at The Gardens at Town Square in Bellevue on Oct. 3, 2009, at noon.

A second service will be held at First Lutheran Church of Sandpoint on Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.
