Burglary suspect waives hearing

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man waived his right Thursday to a preliminary hearing on allegations he broke into the Samuels Conoco station to steal cigarettes, lottery tickets and other items.

In exchange for not contesting the charge at this level, the state agreed to reduce Joshua Lynn Voss’ bail from $50,000 to $2,500, according to court documents.

Voss is charged with burglary. His arraignment in 1st District Court is set for Nov. 2.

Voss, 25, is accused of using a gaming horseshoe to shatter a window and gain entry to the filling station and restaurant on the night of Sept. 13.

A lottery ticket dispenser, cartons of cigarettes, knives and lighters were taken during the break-in, according to a sheriff’s detective’s report.

Voss was apprehended after attempting to claim a cash prize from a winning scratch ticket at a Bonners Ferry convenience store, the report said.

Voss allegedly admitted to committing the heist, the report added.

In an unrelated case, a preliminary hearing is pending for a 30-year-old Laclede man accused of attempting to claim a $600 prize on an Idaho Lottery ticket he allegedly stole from his former place of employment.

A hearing to determine if Joshua O. Stone should be tried on a felony charge of presenting an illegally obtained lottery ticket is set for Oct. 7 in magistrate court.

Stone is free on bond while his case is pending.
