Event focuses on kids getting to school safely

| September 30, 2009 9:00 PM

As the local Safe Routes to School coordinator, for Lake Pend Oreille School District, I was very pleased to see a front-page photo on Sept. 9 of the Bee which supported walking and biking to school.  I also commend the parents, for getting it together to walk and bike with their children to and from school. The Sandpoint area is unique in that way and it is why we love living here.

Safe Routes to School is a state supported program, providing funding for community projects like “Walk to School Day” (Oct. 7), school rodeos and other similar events. Safe Routes to School also will provide a bicycle helmet for any child who needs one. Any parent who wants a bike helmet for their child should contact me at the district office in Ponderay.
