Loreen 'Verna' Steiner, 77

Loreen “Verna” Steiner, 77, passed away on Wednesday,  March 31, 2010 at her home near Sagle, Idaho.

Private memorial services have been held.

Verna was born on Dec. 3, 1932 in Napoleon, N.D., the daughter of Ryder and Katherine E. (Woodbury) Scheiffelbine.

She grew up in Napoleon, moving to Monroe, Wash., in 1948. where she worked for the Valley General Hospital as a nurse’s aide, in Monroe for 17 years.  

 Verna was active raising beef cattle, a dairy cow and farming.  She retired due to health reasons and lived in Florida and Tennessee following the death of her husband with her sister, Darleen Taylor, for a short time.

She later moved to Idaho to be with her friend, Helen Dobner, where she enjoyed cooking and smoking salmon she caught in Alaska while working in the commercial fishing industry. She enjoyed her two Yorkshire dogs, the beauty and scenery of Idaho for the last 10 years.

Survivors include her sister, Darleen Taylor of Florida; nieces, DeAnna Seabrook and Rhonda Dinson; and nephews, David Thiedt and Aaron Thiedt.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister, Lorraine, (died at age 5 days); and a niece, Diane Gail.

Memorials may be made to the Panhandle Animal Shelter,  870  Kootenai Cutoff Road, Ponderay, Idaho 83852.
