Donald Marion Stolley, 72
Donald Marion Stolley, 72, passed away on April 4, 2010, at his Moyie Springs area home.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the Boundary County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Donald was born on July 14, 1937, in Mesa, Ariz., to George Matt and Donna Lee (Rice) Stolley. His family moved to the Duford Road area near Wesmond, Idaho, in 1943.
Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 28, 1954, as a yeoman. After his discharge he returned home for a year and re-enlisted as a machinist/mechanic for the next eight years being discharged on Sept. 15, 1967, with honors.
Don married Edith Heath of Sagle, Idaho, on Jan. 7, 1960. The couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
In 1970, Don and Edith moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where he worked as a mechanic and spent several years as a sawyer in the woods. In 1995, Don retired from the Boundary County Road and Bridge department where he worked as a mechanic.
In 1997, he became the commander of Boundary County Search and Rescue where he has served for 13 years. As commander, in 2008 he received the Everett Bogart award being voted on by his peers in the state.
Don and Edith have been active providing foster home for children and have had 177 foster children through their home.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Stolley of Moyie Springs, Idaho; children, Don and Gina Stolley of Naples, Idaho, Duane Stolley of Naples, Darryl and Sue Stolley of Naples, Dale and Lesia Stolley of Spirit Lake, Idaho, Derrell Davis of Sacramento, Calif., Cheyanne and Richard White and Amanda Francis; a brother, Maurice Stolley and wife, Caroline, of Coeurd’Alene, Idaho; his sisters, Wilma Kopp of Seattle, Wash., and Wilda Kirk and husband Larry of Sagle; and 12 grandchildren and 9.5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donna and George Stolley.
Funeral services are entrusted to the care of Bonners Ferry Funeral Home in Bonners Ferry.
