March 8, 2010 - Today Keith Allred, candidate for governor 2010, filed the necessary signatures with the Idaho Secretary of State's Office to run as a Democrat for the office of governor of Idaho.

"This race is about putting problem solving ahead of politics in order to get Idahoans back to work," Allred said. "Idaho needs good ideas, positive thinking and a leader who thinks before he acts. For these reasons and many more, I'm excited to run for governor of the state I love."

This election comes at a time when Idaho's current leadership is sorely lacking.

"We're getting the weakest leadership in a generation from Governor Otter just when, in our current economic circumstances, we need leadership the most," Allred said.

Allred has a five-year track record of advancing solutions that attract bipartisan support in the Idaho Legislature. Allred said he would use the same approach as governor. He would reduce overall tax rates by closing some of the over $1 billion in special interest tax exemptions and would invest strategically in public education.

"That's how we bring new and better jobs to Idaho and turn this economy around," Allred said.

Otter is out of ideas for responding to the current economic crisis, Allred said.  Otter has proposed cutting education, cutting state funding to Idaho's parks and eliminating funding to Idaho Public Television. That, Allred said, is the mark of a governor who has lost touch with everyday Idahoans.

"Instead of listening to everyday Idahoans, Governor Otter is listening to special interests and a few conservative ideologues like Mike Gwartney," Allred said. "This is costing Idaho precious dollars, and wasting opportunities to move our state forward."

Allred, a fifth-generation Idahoan who grew up in Twin Falls, said he'll be using much of the wisdom he learned growing up in a ranching family.

"I was taught that when things get tough, you don't just cower.  You roll up your sleeves and get to work," Allred said. "I'm ready to work harder than I've ever worked before to tell the good people of Idaho that there is a better way."
