Bulldogs fall to Hawks in home opener
SANDPOINT — Jamie Klopatek tossed a four-hitter to lead Lakeland to a doubleheader sweep over Sandpoint in the 4A North opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon at rainy and muddy Travers Park.
Molly Givens kept the Bulldogs (3-8, 0-2 4A IEL) in the first game by holding Lakeland (5-5, 2-0 4A IEL) in check for six innings, but six errors ultimately proved costly as the Bulldogs fell 6-1.
Down 4-1, the Bulldogs loaded the bases in the fourth inning, but were unable to capitalize.
Christina Johnson made a diving catch on an infield pop up at second base and catcher Meghan Hamilton added a diving catch on a pop up behind the plate to provide highlights for Sandpoint defensively.
Rachel Hammack and Kym DaVault each had their second hit of the day in the second game, a 9-2 loss. The Bulldogs could never muster any consistent offense on a damp day.
“Overall we couldn’t string enough hits together for the rallies that we needed,” said Sandpoint head coach Derek Dickinson.
Sandpoint hosts Lewiston in a doubleheader on Thursday.
