Hamilton, Davis lead Bulldogs past Hawks
SANDPOINT — Tevin Hamilton was dealing on the mound, and the Bulldog bats were banging extra base hits as Sandpoint looked sharp in an 8-1 win over Lakeland in 4A North baseball action Tuesday at rain-soaked War Memorial Field.
Markus Davis laced two triples, Joel Cramer added a triple and a double and Ben Fisher hit a two-bagger as the Bulldogs (5-5, 1-2 4A IEL) pounded five extra base hits, finally breaking through against Lakeland after a pair of early-season 4-3 losses to the Hawks (6-4, 2-1 4A IEL).
Hamilton struck out five and only allowed three hits to pick up the win, as well as his coach’s praise.
“Tevin dominated that game,” said Sandpoint head coach Chris Young. “He throws a fastball, curveball and change for strikes and that’s how he wins games.”
Sandpoint put up deuces in each of the first four innings, mixing power with small ball.
“When I asked them to bunt, they bunted, when I asked them to hit and run, they got the job done,” said Young. “It was timely hitting.”
Since neither the Bulldogs or Hawks have played Moscow, the race to host districts is still very much alive.
Sandpoint plays at Lake City on Thursday.
