Bulldog tennis team throttles Lake City
COEUR d’ALENE — Michelle Rockwell remained undefeated on the season, teaming with Crystal Clark to score a come-from-behind three set win at No. 2 girls doubles, helping lead Sandpoint to a convincing 9-3 win over Lake City in Inland Empire League tennis Thursday at Lake City High School.
Mica Wolcott was solid in her first varsity singles action, winning one of the many three-set matches on the day. Gerhardt Suppiger and Carson Nygren teamed up for a decisive win at No. 2 boys doubles, as Suppiger continues to emerge on a very talented boys team.
“This Gerhardt kid gets better every minute he’s on the court,” said Sandpoint head coach Kent Anderson, who also had high praise for the play of Wolcott. “She had trouble in the first set, then got more and more consistent. It was a cool match to watch.”
Dannette Mauck won in three sets at No. 3 girls singles, garnering her first singles win of the year, and the Bulldogs swept the mixed doubles.
Sandpoint hosts Libby today at 3 p.m. at Travers Park, followed Saturday with a home dual against Moscow, beginning at noon at Travers.
