Mary Margaret (Clemons) Cochran, 84
Mary Margaret (Clemons) Cochran, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 20, 2010. Known for her wit, kind heart, outspoken voice, giving personality, famous cinnamon bread, delicious seven-layer salad and strong words of wisdom, Mary was well known for always giving you her honest opinion, whether you wanted to hear it or not.
Mary was born to Lee R. and Edith Clemons in Caldwell, Idaho, in 1925. An alumna of Whitman College and the University of Oregon as well as proud sister of Delta Gamma, Mary graduated with a degree in sociology in 1949.
Being a resident of Sand-point for more than 60 years, Mary was very well known in the community. Mary was a member the First Presbyterian Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She made many friends over the years volunteering at hospice, working as a social worker, bookkeeper for Southside Water & Sewer District and the Co-op. Mary was also owner, with her husband Pinky Cochran, of Cochran Chevron.
Blessed with a home on Lake Pend Oreille, Mary enjoyed waterskiing, boating and spending time swimming with her grandchildren. After retirement, Mary moved to Westwood where she enjoyed visits from friends, reading, playing bridge, Spite and Malice and catching up on the town gossip.
Mary is survived by her two children, Tim Cochran of Sandpoint and Kate (Kathy) Farner of Issaquah, Wash.; a brother, Leroy (Sallie) Clemons of Hermiston, Ore.; her grandchildren, Adam (Laura) Cochran, Derek (Lucy) Cochran, Bart (Tracy) Cochran, Kasey (Pat) Maloney, Ashley Farner, and Jennifer Farner; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her loving cat, Kitten Kitten, who proved to be a loyal companion.
The family is extremely thankful to all of Mary’s hospice angels for taking such amazing care of her and putting a smile on her face with each visit. Also a special thank you to Rexcene Schendel for her time and devotion in caring for Mary in the last year and a half.
A memorial of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, May 1, 10 a.m. at Lakeview Chapel, 301 S. Olive, Sandpoint Idaho.
Memorials may be sent to Bonner Community Hospice.
